How it works:
- BIG-SCOOBY's Challenge #14 is a pip count challenge, a form of Last
Player Standing tournament, consisting of a series of rounds,
most of which see one player go out each round. The winner is the
last player to survive.
- Everybody plays BIG-SCOOBY every round and only BIG-SCOOBY. Well, usually. ;-)
- There's a place called the Doghouse to which low scoring players may
be sent. There they have to fight between themselves to remain in the
Doghouse until such time as Scooby allows them back into the main.
Players who lose in the Doghouse usually go out.
- The score comes from the very last visible board prior to the match
result page and is the difference between BIG-SCOOBY's pip count and the
player's. The player's score is negative if they lose and positive if
they win.
Examples:
A game that scored -65 and
a game that scored +28.
The lowest score (or combined score, in the case of a pairs or team
round) decides that round's loser or losers but sometimes it's the
highest scores that determine one or more winners for the round.
- Normally a player is only playing for themself but there may be rounds
in which the players are in pairs, teams or groups.
- In a pairs round, each player is partnered with another.
Pairs are usually arranged so that the highest rated player is paired
with the lowest rated, the second highest with the second lowest,
and so on, so that the pairs are more or less equal in strength.
If there's another pairs round later then the players will likely
get a different partner due to players having gone out in the
intervening rounds.
- There are also rounds where the players are split into two teams or
groups. These are decided by rating so that they are more or less
equal in strength, although the balance may change as players go out
(and sometimes come back in or swap sides).
As groups, the competition is within each group. As teams, the
competition is against the other team, the combined scores
determining which team wins or loses, but also within the team to decide
who benefits from the team's win or is penalised for the team losing.
- There are various twists that Scooby might introduce. That is,
how the round is to be played and what kind of outcome there will be.
The first part is whether the players are in one group or two, as pairs
or in teams.
- Simple twists include the lowest player going out or to the DogHouse,
or the two or three lowest, or one out and one to the Doghouse. At the
other end of the scale, the highest scoring player may win a free pass
for the following round.
-
With pairs it may be their combined scores against Scooby that
determines whether they are victorious as a high scoring pair or
forfeit as the lowest.
Sometimes there's a twist to the forfeit and the losing pair have to
play each other, the winner getting a reprieve or a lesser punishment.
A more complex twist is for all the players to play against their
partner. The winners of the matches go through while the losers
then all play Scooby as in a normal round.
- A team round is also determined by combined scores. The top player in the
winning team may get a bye and/or the lowest in the losing team go to the
Doghouse or out.
- In a groups round, the groups are not competing against each other and
the twist will apply to both groups.
- BIG-SCOOBY will mention that there's a twist at the start of a round,
or even in the previous round, but may not give the details until
later.
Whatever Scooby thinks up might become a twist. So far no
nudity has been involved but ... well, you never know.... ;o)
Rules:
- (-: Be nice to each other.
- Be nice to Scooby. :-)
